Fiery kale juice & a fruity kale smoothie

We all know it’s coming. The air outside is getting fresh and crisp. The leaves are golden and falling. And the rain has finally arrived too. We’ve been so lucky to have an amazing English summer but I’m a self-confessed winter lover. I just adore everything there is about it. Getting wrapped up in big cosy coats and scarfs. Comforting stews. Rich hot chocolate piled high with marshmallows and whipped cream. Mulled wine and cider. Actually lets be real… any type of hot alcohol is good in my books.

So before the inevitable winter eating begins, I wanted something to nourish my body and make up for all the ice-cream and white wine I’ve been consuming in the name of summer time. I wanted all the nutritional benefits of kale (hola super food) but with the ease of something I could grab on my way out of the door in the morning. Say hello to our fruity kale smoothie and fiery pressed kale juice. Note: no juicer needed. Just a sieve and big bowl.

These drinks have no more than 4 ingredients each. First up is our juice filled with lime juice and fiery ginger. Y’all tried peeling ginger with a teaspoon?! It’s the easiest way to peel around all the knobbly bits. Just watch out for any stray juices to the eye…who’d have though ginger could be so dangerous.

These juices are a simple blitz in the blender and go situation. We grab two big handfuls of kale, throw in our peeled ginger, lime and apple juice and blitz blitz blitz. To get a super smooth juice just pour the drink into a sieve above a bowl and press all the fresh juice out of the kaley pulp.

Next up in our line up of kale goodness is a fruity little number spiked with nutty almond milk. This drink is great with a little hint of honey for sweetness, it pairs so well with the almond milk. Again we grab two big handfuls of kale, a couple of kiwis, a good dose of almond milk and the juice of half a lemon.

We throw all our ingredients in the blender and blitz till nice and smooth. We end up with a tropical almond drink packed full of goodness and vitamins. Look at that jug of health!!! I feel good just even looking at.

These drinks are so easy, quick and take next to no ingredients. They’re an instant pick me up to start a day with, or a great way to ward off any winter colds.
